Long Beach Pride™ co-founder, Bob Crow, receives the 2018 Consolidated Association of Pride (CAPI) Person of the Year Award.

Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride is proud to announce that one of its founders, Bob Crow, was selected as the 2018 Consolidated Association of Pride (CAPI) Person of the Year Award in Austin, Texas.

The Consolidated Association of Pride (CAPI) was formed in 1987 in San Jose, California by five founding Pride organizations; Long Beach, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose and Christopher Street West, as the California Association of Pride, Inc.  In 1996, the association was renamed as the Consolidated Association of Pride Inc., to better reflect its membership that includes LGBTQ+ Pride coordinators in Arizona, California, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, Utah and the country of Mexico.

This year, Bob Crow was recognized as the Person of the Year by CAPI for his hard work and dedication as a pioneer who has paved the way for several generations to live, as well as, express their authentic lives.  Mr. Crow is an example of dedication and leadership that has brought about equality and diversity to many communities. He is currently the only active founding member of Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride that continues to volunteer tirelessly each year for the prosperity of the annual event.

This year Long Beach Pride™ celebrates its 35th anniversary of putting on the largest 2-day festival and parade.  It is a year-round operation that maintains permanent office space, employs 1 full-time employee and continues the tradition of giving back to the community each year.  Long Beach Pride™ was the first non-profit organization in the City of Long Beach to ward grants and scholarships from a portion of the proceeds it received from its festival and parade.  In addition, the organization provides low-income housing for the LGBTQ+QI+ community, as well as, an annual Christmas Toy Drive.  Come join us May 19th – 20th in celebrating 35 years of Pride!
